Safety comes first
- Shut off the main water valve to stop the flow. It's usually where the line enters the home, in a garage, basement or crawlspace.
- If water is near outlets or your electrical panel, stay away and turn off power at the breaker only if you can do so safely.
- If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
- Move valuables away from water and photograph damage for insurance.
